Reliability Assessment of a New-Type Distribution Network Based on Intelligent Electricity Consumption Strategies and Advanced Energy Storage Systems

In the context of the current energy transition and the development of smart grids, the widespread integration of Distributed Generators (DG), Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and Electric Vehicles (EV) presents both new opportunities and challenges for distribution networks. This paper investigates the role of DG, ESS, and EV in smart grids and distribution network systems. Using the IEEE RBTS Bus6-F4 test system model and sequential Monte Carlo simulation, we conduct a comprehensive analysis and discussion of the reliability of a novel distribution network incorporating DG, ESS, and EV. Firstly, the paper analyzes the role of Electric Vehicles as a critical connection hub in the power-transportation coupled network. Based on graph theory, a transportation network topology is established. This is combined with a road resistance model to construct a dynamic transportation network, which serves as the foundation for modeling the spatiotemporal distribution of Electric Vehicles during travel periods. Reliability assessments of the distribution network are performed using three scenarios: (1) without DG, (2) with DG only, and (3) with DG, ESS, and EV. The reliability indices considered include System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), Expected Energy Not Supplied (EENS), Average Service Availability Index (ASAI), Islanding Resilience (ISR), Time-Varying Reliability Index (TRI), Energy Imbalance Factor (EIF), and Node Criticality Index (NCI). The results demonstrate that the integration of DG, ESS, and EV significantly enhances the reliability of the distribution network.
