Net-Zero Building Lighting: A Smart Lighting System Framework Enabled by Photovoltaic-Integrated Power over Ethernet

As we enter the fourth industrial revolution, characterized by the ‘Digital-Intelligent Revolution’ and the integration of information and energy, the demand for efficient and intelligent energy management has become increasingly urgent. Traditional high-voltage lighting networks, with their cumbersome frameworks, struggle to meet these growing energy efficiency demands. This paper introduces a novel photovoltaic-integrated power over ethernet (PPoE) lighting framework for buildings, which not only reduces energy consumption but also enhances the overall performance of the smart lighting system. By seamlessly integrating energy and data, PoE optimizes the responsiveness and adaptability of the lighting network through multimodal sensing. The adoption of low-voltage DC photovoltaic energy enables direct powering of lighting, significantly reducing energy losses and contributing to net-zero carbon emissions. This innovative combination of power supply methods and smart lighting provides essential improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and human-centric control, marking a major advancement in sustainable building technologies.
