Energy Saving and CO2 Reduction of Expressway Lighting: A Case Study in Thailand

This paper summarizes a study report on specifications and standards of LED road lighting and electrical infrastructure to enhance energy stability of expressway lighting in Thailand. Thai Industrial Standard Institute (TISI) has announced Thai recommendation for lighting of roads for motor and pedestrian traffic, TIS 2954-2019 which is based on CIE 115-2010. More reports on measurement and assessment on road lighting in Thailand are being carried out and undergoing. The main part of this work will focus on energy saving and CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> reduction evaluation before and after lamp changing from high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps to light emitting diode (LED) lamps of expressway lighting. Results showed that LED lamps can help with energy saving in both power density and annual energy consumption indicators and CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> reduction. However, proper road lighting design is required to meet various criteria.
