Is There More to POCUS Than the Heart and Lungs in the Parturient-Venous Excess Ultrasound Score?
( Anesth Analg . 2024;139(3):e23–e25. doi:10.1213/ANE.0000000000007100) The venous excess ultrasound score (VExUS) offers essential information about venous disorders and their relevance for tailored treatment in preeclampsia. Historically, preeclampsia has been defined as a multisystem condition caused by endothelial dysfunction, frequently leading to pulmonary edema and heightened capillary permeability. Nonetheless, new evidence emphasizes the importance of cardiac function, intrinsic volume overload, and venous hemodynamic dysfunction as key factors in its pathophysiology.
