Design and Implementation of an Automatic Mesh Generation System for Transformer Simulation

With the rapid development of power system and energy industry, the reliability and efficiency of transformer's performance is crucial as a key power equipment. The finite element method is widely used in the simulation and analysis of electromagnetic and thermal fields of transformers, and mesh generation, as a key step in FEM, directly affects the simulation accuracy and computational efficiency. Traditional manual mesh generation methods are often cumbersome and error-prone when dealing with complex geometries. In this paper, an automatic mesh generation system based on Gmsh and C++ is proposed, which is designed for transformer simulation. By inputting the geometrical parameters of the transformer, the system automatically builds a geometrical model of the transformer and performs mesh dissections based on physical bodies and algorithmic improvements. The system is capable of adjusting the mesh density according to the physical properties of different regions to improve the simulation accuracy and computational efficiency. After the mesh dissection is completed, the system further processes the mesh output file, automatically extracts the node coordinates and cell connection information, and converts it into a format suitable for subsequent simulation calculations, which simplifies the subsequent simulation process and improves the automation degree of the system. By integrating automatic modelling, mesh generation and subsequent data processing, the system reduces manual intervention, improves simulation accuracy, and has high practicality and promotion value.
