6D to 3D Camera Colorimetric Calibration for Assessment of Lighting Scenes : IEEE Sustainable Smart Lighting Conference, 12-14 november 2024, Eindhoven University of Technology

We propose a colorimetric calibration method associated with an imaging device (based on a camera, filter or coloured mirror) to obtain calibrated images of scenes illuminated by light sources emitting different spectra. Usually, color calibration is sensitive to metamerism. Rather than using a single RGB triplet for each image pixel, the main idea is to collect additional information, such as a second RGB triplet, and then use transformation (RGB1; RGB2 to XYZ). We present how to collect two RGB triplets using an imaging device, and the used transformation. Computation time is evaluated and an optimized way of performing calibration is discussed to enable calibration of videos. The proposed method can be extended to calibrate from (RGB1; RGB2) to any embedded spectral quantity (e.g. blue hazard) and can then be used to evaluate lighting scenes according to various criteria, for human, animal or plant response to light.
