BBR Algorithm Extension for IoT Networks: Asynchronous Transmission Traffic Model and Adaptive Rate Control

This paper aims to solve the dual challenges of timeliness and throughput in message transmission for IoT applications, especially the performance bottlenecks faced by message brokers in the publish/subscribe mode. By integrating the concept of BBR algorithm, this paper builds an IoT traffic model that takes into account the heterogeneous characteristics of IoT devices and complex network environments. Based on this model, an innovative rate control algorithm is proposed, which dynamically adjusts transmission rates to minimize buffering and achieve stable throughput while significantly reducing message transmission delay. The experimental results show that there is a critical point of sending rate in IoT message transmission, which can simultaneously achieve stable throughput and lowest delay. After exceeding this point, message delay increases significantly and fluctuations intensify. The optimal strategy is to control the sending rate at this critical point to avoid congestion-induced transmission instability by minimizing buffering. Therefore, this paper designs an adaptive rate control algorithm that monitors transmission status and buffer dynamics in real-time and adjusts data transmission rate to the optimal control point to achieve stable throughput and lower transmission delay.
