Butterfly: An Enhanced MQTT Broker for Power IoT Based on an Optimized Reactor Pattern
In this paper, an enhanced multi-thread MQTT broker architecture (Butterfly) is proposed for Power Internet of Things (IoT) to significantly reduce the system data transmission pressure and on-site operation and maintenance pressure caused by massive terminal device access. Considering that the performance of traditional MQTT broker is limited by the single-threaded mode, we investigate the Reactor pattern and improve it according to the characteristics of MQTT protocol, so that Butterfly can utilize multi-core server resources. To further improve the message transmission performance of Butterfly, an adaptive thread tuning mechanism is proposed, which jointly considers hardware resources, device types and real thread load. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed enhanced MQTT broker architecture and thread tuning mechanism.
