The Study of Characteristics of Self Organizing Teams in Agile

The essence of Agile software development lies in the self-organization of teams. These teams possess the autonomy to make decisions independently, taking ownership of their choices. Additionally, they exhibit essential characteristics such as cross functionality, continuous learning, empowerment, and leadership, contributing to their success. In this research, we conducted an experiment within a software house, involving a team of five people. We gathered data related to team issues, missing characteristics, and levels of motivation and productivity through surveys and interviews. Following data analysis, we found that the team lacked key characteristics: communication, shared leadership, continuous improvement, and autonomy. We implemented these characteristics within the team through specific practices and observed improvements in several quality metrics. The rework required rate was reduced, the on-time delivery rate improved, and customer satisfaction increased. Furthermore, we noted enhancements in team dynamics, including motivation, productivity, and performance. This comparative study sheds light on the influence of these implemented characteristics on the self-organizing dynamics of Agile teams.
