Model Predictive Current Control for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors in Variable Load Application
Conventional industrial MPC approaches involve employing one voltage vector throughout a single control period, which results in higher current harmonics and even voltage harmonics as well as substantial torque pulsations. To mitigate these challenges, this work proposes a new contribution to the Model Predictive Current Control (MPCC) strategy for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) especially in variable speed applications, addressing the limitations of conventional Model Predictive Control (MPC). A refined MPCC strategy where a reference voltage vector is calculated to identify the ideal voltage vector for the next interval, significantly reducing computational complexity and improving cost function minimization. In conjunction with the MPCC, a PID controller is implemented for precise speed control of the PMSM. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MPC technique outperforms as compared to conventional MPC by reducing sensitivity to control parameters, even when using the duty cycle method with active and null vectors.
