High Performance SiC Based High-Frequency Drive System for High Speed Induction Motor
Traditional Induction Motor (1M) drives, employing silicon transistors as power devices, operating at low frequencies with high switching losses, making them unsuitable for high-speed applications. In contrast the wide-bandgap silicon carbide (SiC) transistors, with their fast switching speed and low on-resistance, present an ideal solution for high-speed drives. This paper presents the design of a high performance motor drive system for high-speed 1M machine based on SiC MOSFET. Firstly, the paper details the high-speed gate drive circuit for SiC MOSFET. Then, it the optimization of chip packaging to minimize parasitic inductance is introduced. Finally, it describes the hardware and software design of the high-speed motor drive, utilizing Hall signals in conjunction with a digital controller. Experimental results demonstrate that the SiC-based solution significantly enhances the power density and efficiency of the drive.
