Emission Reduction for a Home in Iraq Utilizing Geothermal System Supplied by Isolated Photovoltaic-Wind-Diesel Generator Using Genetic Algorithm Optimization

The main goal of this article is to focus on reducing the effect of emissions for a home located in a remote area in Iraq supplied by an isolated Photovoltaic (PV), Wind Turbine (WT), with a backup system containing Battery Storage System (BSS), and Diesel Generator (DG), the new addition used in this article is a Geothermal System (GS). Using GS as an additional tool that will affect the cooling load’s power consumption by making useful underground temperature, will minimize the total power consumption by saving the generating power energy. The proposed model is simulated using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for a home in Basrah City, Southern region of Iraq, the results illustrate the difference in the emission value with and without using GS. It shows that the power drawn from DG is reduced when turning on the cooling load, meaning less emission.
