Design of All-Metal Wideband Phased Array Antenna for Radar Applications
This article presents a wideband phased array made entirely of metal for radar applications. The tapered arms of the array element are arranged close together for improved mutual coupling. The array has a frequency range of 80 - 530 MHz (6.6:1) and can scan to 30° in the E-, H-, and D-plane with a VSWR of 2.7 or less. The presented antenna unit element profile is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.36\lambda_{300\text{MHz}}$</tex>, with dimensions of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$320mm\times 350mm\times$</tex> 360mm. High power handling capability, mechanical strength, and low-frequency operation are the hallmarks of the design.
