Multi-Layer Metamaterial and FSS Based Antenna for WLAN, WiFi, and Lower 5G Band Applications
This paper has reported a multilayer metamaterial antenna for the WLAN, WiMAX, and lower 5G (sub-6GHz band) communication applications. The dimension of the antenna are: Layer-1 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$30\times 30\times 1.575\ mm^{3}$</tex>, Layer-2 <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$20\times 30\times 1.6\ mm^{3}$</tex>. The proposed antenna configuration consists of novel metamaterial cells as the radiating elements in layer 1. The cells are excited by the T-shaped microstrip feed line. Layer 2 consists of a triangle-shaped newly designed FSS-cell for gain enhancement radiation blockage and maximum reflection of the incident wave. The proposed antenna configuration operates in less than a -10 dB band from 3.3 to 3.8 GHz. The top layer is designed on Rogers RT5880, whereas the bottom layer is designed on FR-4. The compact design and enhanced gain at low frequency make it a definite contender for the lower 5G band application devices.
