Two-Ended Fault Location in Transmission Lines with a Fault Current Limiting Reactor at One End
This paper presents an adaptation of two-ended impedance-based fault location algorithms for application in single-circuit transmission lines with a fault current limiting reactor (FCLR) installed at one terminal. The presence of an FCLR introduces additional impedance, complicating traditional fault location methods. The proposed methodology involves three steps: identifying the FCLR terminal and its impedance, calculating the effective voltage downstream of the FCLR, and applying conventional two-ended algorithms using the modified voltage and current phasors. The method is validated on a 138 kV transmission line.
