Integrative Lighting Design of a Living Area in a Residential Care Facility
Integrative lighting design takes into account several factors: spectrum, intensity, and timing of lighting, but also the materials of the room. In this paper, the integrative lighting design of a living area in a residential care facility is described. The residents are elderly people with dementia. They can benefit from more light at eye level in the morning and dimmed lighting in the (late) afternoon and evening, which could lead to better sleep, mental health, and behaviour. The lighting calculations in DIALux evo show that with the right materials and luminaires, it is possible to achieve a melanopic EDI of more than 500 lx at the residents' positions.
