Examining the Impact of Aging of the Lighting Equipment and the New Revision of Lighting Standards on a Football Lighting Pitch
The purpose of this paper is to capture the lighting requirements of a football pitch according to the current international standards for lighting of football matches and the UEFA regulations, and how these have changed over the last 15 years. For the specific football stadium studied, whose lighting was designed in 2011 according to the regulations in force at the time a) the qualitative and quantitative parameters of the standards were considered and b) these parameters were compared with their respective values measured under real stadium lighting conditions in 2024. From the comparison of the measured quantities with those of the standards as well as the regulations of different time periods, conclusions were drawn regarding the impact of the maintenance of the lighting system and the degradation of the visual comfort and television image quality with respect to both the previous and the amended and newer current standards. Also, conclusions were drawn as per how the amendment of standards affects the visual effect compared to the older standards.
