Method for Layout of Frequency Selective Surface Units in Pointed Nose Radome
This paper proposes an optimized method for arranging frequency selective surface (FSS) elements on the complex geometry of a pointed nose radome to enhance electromagnetic stealth performance. By dividing the curved edges of the developed surfaces equally, this method ensures uniform FSS element placement while maintaining consistent electromagnetic properties. An experimental design demonstrates a Y-shaped frequency selective unit array on the radome, enabling selective frequency filtering at a resonant frequency range of 11–13 GHz and achieving over 10 dB attenuation at nonresonant frequencies. This technique addresses the challenges of arranging FSS on non-planar surfaces, offering an effective solution for stealth applications in aerospace and defense.
