Challenges and Solutions on the Road Towards Smart Lighting with Projected LED Arrays
Dynamic illumination systems with an adaptive radiation pattern can be realized by combining high-resolution LED arrays with suitable projection optics. If such adaptive lighting fixtures are furthermore combined with one or more camera sensors, smart lighting systems can be developed. Such systems are already in use for automotive applications, i.e. for adaptive exterior car lighting, but have not yet been commercialized for general lighting. In this paper some important challenges and potential solutions are discussed on the road towards smart lighting with projected LED arrays for general lighting applications.
