Experimental study on the surface morphology of single-point diamond turning of tungsten alloy

Abstract Tungsten alloys have been widely used in aerospace, military, and other fields because of their excellent properties, such as high strength, high hardness, high melting point, and other properties. However, tungsten alloy is a typical difficult-to-machine material. Especially in the process of single point diamond turning (SPDT) machining, the influence of its process parameters on the machined surface morphology of the workpiece is still to be studied deeply. Therefore, this paper uses a one-factor approach to single-point diamond turning (SPDT) experiments on W93NiFe alloy. This study investigated the effect of different cutting parameters on the surface morphology of W93NiFe alloy. The experimental results indicated that the values of arithmetic mean deviation and surface steepness gradually increased with the increase of the feed rate; The surface defects have increased significantly; As the cutting speed increased, the values of arithmetic mean deviation and surface steepness decreased gradually; The surface defects are significantly reduced. The value of the surface support index increased gradually. In addition, as the depth of cutting increased, the values of arithmetic mean deviation and surface steepness gradually increased; The result is a gradual deterioration of the surface topography; The surface support index value decreased gradually.
