Enhanced Oxygen Electrocatalysis: Investigating LiCoO2 with Fluorine Substitution for Improved Oxygen Evolution and Reduction
This study focused on improvement of bifunctional electrocatalytic for oxygen evolution and reduction reaction. Herein, by minor substitution of fluorin instead of oxygen, the electronic structure of cobalt was adjusted and the kinetics of the oxygen electrocatalysis were accelerated. LiCoO 2 was synthesized by sol-gel method and fluorine in x = 0.15, 0.25, 0.35, 0.45 ratios were added to Lithium Cobalt oxide (LiCoO 2−X F X ). The structure and crystalline nature of the synthesized samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Microstructural and morphological investigations using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were also conducted to further confirm the correctness of the syntheses. The potential gap between ORR potential at −30 A m −2 and OER potential at 100 A m −2 of LiCoO 1.65 F 0.35 catalyst (0.941 V) is substantially lower than that for prior LiCoO 2 catalyst (1.2 V), indicating bifunctional activity.
