90 ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF COLLEGE COUNSELORS’ INTERVENTION ON SOCIAL DISORDER OF COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA
Abstract Background With the increasing social attention to mental health, the problems of students’ mental health have gradually become the focus of public concern. As a serious mental disorder, schizophrenia has a significant impact on students’ academic performance, social life, innovative and entrepreneurial activities, and future development. People with schizophrenia often face social barriers, such as social avoidance and communication disorders, which can lead to social isolation and a decreased sense of self-worth, affecting their social skills and relationships. For those who suffer from mental disorder, the working patterns of college counselors need further improvement to better identify and deal with it. By analyzing the specific cases of students with schizophrenia, the study is expected to provide countermeasures for the positive and effective intervention of college students with mental illness in the work of education management. Methods Twenty students with schizophrenia in a university were selected as the study objects, and healthy students with similar background were selected as the control group. Participants in the control group received standard out-of-hospital interventions, including the distribution of disease education manuals, medication counseling, and promotion to prevent disease recurrence, while health care workers reminded them to check in regularly after discharge. For the participants of the research group, psychological intervention based on the concept of humanistic care was implemented by the university counselor. By establishing the patients’ health files, and clearly informing the functions and rules of the group when the patients joined the WeChat group, the information of the patients’ condition and medication after discharge was recorded in the group files. In terms of improving patients’ living abilities, team members created promotional videos covering rehabilitation training, daily living interventions, social connections, communication skills, and campus cultural activities, aiming to help patients better integrate into life scenarios. Results The study aimed to address the psychological intervention needs of patients in the rehabilitation period of schizophrenia, and implemented a psychological intervention led by university counselors with humanistic care as the core, and evaluated its effectiveness. Before the intervention, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Self Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and Social Disability Screening Schedule (SDSS) scores of the observation group and the control group were compared, and no significant difference was found between the two groups (P >0.05). After the intervention, the observation group showed significantly lower scores in PSQI, SDS, and SDSS compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Discussion The research results showed that after intervention, the PSQI, SDS, and SDSS scores of the observation group decreased compared to the control group, indicating that the psychological intervention measures based on humanistic care implemented by university counselors have a positive impact on improving patients’ sleep quality and social skills, and have achieved good results in improving patients’ social functioning. Through the psychological intervention of the counselor, the patient received life guidance and psychological support. At the same time, measures of mental health education helped the patient to continuously obtain positive psychological experiences, effectively preventing the defects caused by the lack of social interaction.
