High-Strength Radio-Transparent Glass-Ceramic for Armor Protection of Ground and Aviation Equipment

The need to create radio-transparent protective materials with high light transmission for the uninterrupted functioning of protection against the destruction of glazing elements of land and aviation equipment has been determined. The main types of radio-transparent high-strength ceramic materials were analyzed and the prospects of using oxide ceramic and glass-ceramic materials in the creation of radio-transparent elements for armor protection were established. The choice of magnesium and lithium aluminosilicate glasses as the basis for obtaining glass-ceramic materials with the content of crystalline phases - spinel, cordierite or lithium disilicate is substantiated. The interdependence of the phase composition, structure and properties of glass-ceramic materials has been established. The developed vitreous materials are characterized by light transmission in the range of 65–74 %, low density of 2.38-2.65 g/cm3, stress intensity factor of 3.55-5.0 MPa·m1/2, Young's modulus of 250–320 GPa, temperature coefficient linear expansion (59.0-72.5)·10−7 K−1, dielectric loss angle tangent (20-70)·104 and dielectric constant 4.4-8.0, which determines the prospects of their use for glazing inspection windows lightly armored and aviation equipment.
