Characterization of Tropical Leaf Properties Considering Millimeter Wave Wireless

This study investigates the material properties of tropical vegetation, focusing specifically on guava leaves (Psidium guajava). Given the importance of tropical vegetation in biodiversity, climate regulation, and ecological balance, characterizing both physical and electrical parameters is essential. While traditional biodiversity studies often center on physical properties, this research aims to assess the dielectric properties of guava leaves at the ka-Band frequency (26-40 GHz). Using the Transmission/Reflection Line Method with a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA), measurements were taken for both fresh and dried guava leaves, analyzing S-parameters to extract complex permittivity and permeability. This work advances the understanding of tropical vegetation’s electrical characteristics, supporting applications in telecommunications, materials science, and environmental studies.
