1-Bit Reconfigurable Metasurfaces Based on Interconnected Split Square-Ring Resonators
This work introduces a concept for developing reconfigurable metasurfaces capable of frequency and polarization modulation within the 5G frequency range 1 (FR1) band. The design features unit cells consisting of split square-ring resonators (SSRR) interconnected exclusively along one of the primary axes, with PIN diodes linking the two sides of each SSRR. This setup allows for wavefront amplitude modulation using a 1-bit switch. Numerical simulations demonstrate high extinction ratios of up to 24.22 dB and cross-talk peaks of 22.37 dB, highlighting the potential of this design for future 5G applications through 1-bit reconfigurable metasurfaces.
