Excess of Severe Autoimmune Diseases in Women With Premature Ovarian Insufficiency: A Population-Based Study
(Abstracted from Hum Reprod 2024;39:2601–2607) Ovarian function that stops before the age of 40 is classified as spontaneous premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and affects up to 1% of women, bringing with the diagnosis a plethora of negative health and quality of life impacts. Etiologies range from previous cancers and oophorectomies to chromosomal disorders, but an estimated 4%–55% of cases stem from autoimmune diseases.
