UNDERSTANDING THE OPPOSITION IN THE FORMATION OF MODERN SACRED SPACE
The article analyzes the changing principles of modern European sacred architecture. A rethinking of the early paradigm is presented: it is revealed that the monastic orders and liturgical movements that initiated the reforms of the modern Catholic Church were usually inspired by the worship and way of life of the primitive Christian communities. This inspiration lived on after the Second Vatican Council; thus, the spatial and urban heritage of the early centuries shaped the course of European church architecture up to the present day. The question of resources, which has been completely reevaluated thanks to the new liturgical guidelines of the third millennium, is considered. Instead of utopias, new architectural solutions have appeared that better correspond to the structure of the Liturgy, depict a clearer and more realistic image of Christianity. This modern change has also influenced large-scale planning, especially where new city centers are being formed as open and multifunctional meeting places for different communities. Most examples in Europe prove that the architectural framework of such a religious orientation inevitably generates new social platforms in the urban environment. It was found that the articulation of the liturgical space, designed as a multifunctional sacred complex, more successfully reveals the dynamics of Christian life. The opinions of leading theorists of culture are presented. Features characteristic of the culture of the end of the century are represented. The architecture of sacred buildings built according to the principle of engineering science is considered. The need to take into account the relationship between certain forms and the messages transmitted through them in shaping the sacred space has been revealed.
