Experimental Design and Mathematical Modeling of $A$123 Li-ion EV Pouch Cell for the State of Charge Estimation via Dissipativity Observer
This paper explores the design of a state of charge (SOC) observer for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) using dissipativity theory for the first time, employing the construction of the Lyapunov- Krasovskii functional (LKF) and the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. A novel state observer criterion is developed to solve the LIBs' equivalent circuit mathematical model, ensuring optimal performance for accurate SOC estimation. In recent years, the A123 20Ah pouch cell has gained popularity in both passenger and commercial electric vehicles (EVs) due to its high energy density, durability, and suitability for demanding applications. Given its widespread adoption in the EV industry, we selected this particular cell for our experimental investigation and subsequent numerical analysis in this study. Finally, utilizing the acquired experimental data, an intriguing simulation example is exploited in the simulation part to demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approach.
