IoT and GIS Based Real Time Water Pipeline Surveillance and Leak Detection System

This study describes an innovative system for inspecting and analyzing water supply pipes that combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Flow and pressure sensors are strategically installed at each node in the pipeline network to continually gather data. This data is wirelessly relayed to a central system using LoRa technology and compared with data from surrounding nodes. Any irregularities or inconsistencies in pressure or flow rates, such as those produced by leaks or obstructions, are identified promptly. The technology then provides notifications, informing municipal officials to take timely remedial action. By incorporating GIS, the system gives a real-time, intuitive visual picture of the whole pipeline network, enabling for more efficient monitoring and faster reaction to problems. This preventive method reduces water loss, mitigates pipeline damage, and prevents concerns from escalating into expensive repairs. Furthermore, early leak detection aids in the prevention of pollution and the spread of waterborne illnesses, hence improving public health and promoting environmental sustainability
