Design of Multiband Stacked Dielectric Resonator MIMO Antenna for 5G - Millimeter Wave Application
This paper describes a low-profile multiband dielec-tric resonator multiple-input / multiple-output antenna for a 5G (mm-wave) wireless application. The stacked dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) mounted on a Rogers 5880 substrate has a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\epsilon_{r}=2.2$</tex> with <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{h}=1.57$</tex> mm. Each stacked DRA is encompassed of material as alumina or ceramic and has a high <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\epsilon_{r}=9.9$</tex> It acts as a radiator and is excited by an extended microstrip line feed. Each element excites and resonates tri-band at 29 GHz, 33 GHz, and 40 GHz. High isolation (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\leq-15$</tex> dB) is obtained by placing antenna elements perpendicular to each other. Further, stacked-DRA MIMO has a maximum gain, and diversity metrics have been investigated. These characteristics suit low-profile antenna designs in wireless sensor nodes, short-range radars, and 5G mm-wave applications.
