Very High-Resolution Sensing and Communications Testbed with 5G mmWave Frontend

In 6G mobile communications, Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is envisioned to deliver ultra-reliable data transmission and advanced high-resolution localization and gesture recognition capabilities, enabling accurate tracking of user movements and interactions in various environments. To this end, an ISAC testbed capable of handling instantaneous bandwidth of up to 4 GHz while using 5G signals with carrier aggregation and 5 G mmWave frontends is presented in this paper. Departing from classical single-point target estimation, the testbed also implements object detection and classification capabilities with modern neural networks, which enables the realization of the concept of “negative latency”.
