Innovative Slot-Enhanced Coplanar Waveguide Fed Circular Patch Ultra-Wideband Antenna for Medical Application

The proposed antenna, designed with slots on a circular patch, utilizes a Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) feeding technique. This Ultra-Wideband (UWB) antenna operates effectively across the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency range, achieving an S11 < −10 dB, with a minimum return loss of −45.5 dB recorded at 3.73 GHz. Compactly sized at 30×30 mm2, the antenna uses a substrate material with a relative permittivity of 4.4 and a thickness of 1.6 mm. The inclusion of slots in the circular patch design improves impedance matching and results in an omnidirectional radiation pattern, which significantly enhances the antenna's performance. This makes it particularly well-suited for biomedical applications. In addition to its broad operational bandwidth and compact size, the proposed antenna demonstrates favorable radiation properties, maintaining a stable pattern across its entire frequency range.
