Adaptive PSO for Analog Circuit Space Exploration

Automation of analog circuits helps in reducing the design time and design effort. The circuit space exploration can be done by using optimization algorithms. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied to automate the two-stage operational amplifier design. The Single objective and Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization algorithms are analyzed. A variant of PSO called Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization (Ad-PSO) is proposed to accelerate the automation of two-stage operational amplifier design. It leads to faster convergence and better objectives achieved with respect to fitness function compared with the conventional PSO algorithm. The obtained design parameters are fed to the circuit and the design verification is accomplished using Cadence Virtuoso GPDK 180 nm technology.
