Field test of electric vehicle charging station providing fast frequency response
The growing integration of non-synchronous power sources is progressively reducing system inertia, resulting in faster frequency changes following disturbances and presenting significant challenges for stable frequency regulation in modern power systems. Electric vehicle (EV) charging is recognized as a flexible capacity source for frequency regulation. This paper presents a fast frequency response test for EV charging stations. A series of tests, including frequency step, frequency ramp, and hybrid tests, were conducted to evaluate the fast frequency response performance of the charging station. The results demonstrate the charging station’s rapid regulation capabilities and highlight significant potential for further optimization. These findings are being utilized to inform the development of standards for demand-side charging loads participating in fast frequency response.
