Design of Composite Right Left-Handed Metamaterial RF-Coil for 7T MRI
In this paper a composite right left-handed series mode zeroth order resonant coil (CRLH/ZORC) for 7T MRI system is presented. The structure of the coil consists of five unit-cells each have five layers implemented in Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) technology. The coil is connected to an input matching network to be matched with the source impedance of 50 Ω. The design has proved the ability to achieve a very high uniform magnetic field (B1) especially at the edges of the top layer. A return loss of -18.18 dB is obtained at the operating frequency of 297.27 MHz, and the calculated SAR values are 0.0461 W/kg and 0.0189 W/kg for 1-g and 10-g models, respectively. The design, simulation, and analysis are carried out using computer simulation technology CST.
