Combined effects of soot packing density and penetration depth inside filtering wall on DPF regeneration pattern
In this paper, we apply a two-dimensional mathematical model of soot combustion to investigate the influence of particle deposition characteristics within the filtering wall on the regeneration process of wall-flow catalyzed diesel particulate filters (DPFs). The numerical results indicate that the catalytic combustion’s enhancing effect on non-catalytic soot combustion in the cake layer depends on the soot’s packing density and penetration depth into the filtering wall. When these factors are small, the enhancement is insufficient to significantly transform the combustion mode in the cake layer, leading to slow and gradual DPF regeneration. Conversely, higher soot packing density and penetration deptKh significantly accelerate noncatalytic soot combustion, promoting faster DPF regeneration.
