Design and Development of a Smart Wireless Insole for Gait Analysis
The walking pattern of the human being is described in the term called “Gait”. A series of tests called gait analysis is used to determine a person's walking patterns. Rehabilitative measures and appropriate medical aid in relation to the problem criteria are facilitated by the gait analysis results. Wearable sensor-based gait analysis is a low-cost and effective way to generate meaningful data for various medical applications. It has significant potential as a clinical tool for the evaluation and rehabilitation of medical disorders and sports-related injuries. It is done with insoles embedded with miniaturized sensors capable of obtaining the foot pressure value of the user wearing the smart shoe. The foot forces during the test are determined by the technique by means of a three-axis accelerometer and two instrumented insoles that can monitor pressure from various places of the foot. This paper presents the concept of accessing the foot pressure distribution of a leg operated person or a surgical recipient for the identification of equal distribution of force to both the legs i.e. the identification of variation in distribution. This variations could cause changes in future walking pattern or may alter their physical posture. For convenience of usage, a wireless data transmission measuring module was created.
