IoT Based Drainage Cleaning System and Hydroelectricity Generation: A Case Study for Chattogram Metropolitan Area

Clear drains are very important for Chattogram sewage disposal. Traditional drain cleaning is done by humans which is very risky because every year manual task poses significant health and safety risks due to hazardous, polluted sewer systems, which workers clean without any protection. Maintaining clear drains is essential for effective sewage disposal. Adopting an automated drain cleaning system will eliminate the current hazardous manual labor cleaning process and significantly enhance efficiency. This research conducts drainage cleaning systems based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology and hydroelectricity generation from drainage water. A survey has been conducted to evaluate the feasibility of such a system in six different areas in the Chattogram metropolitan area. A lot of potential for waste cleaning, along with hydroelectric power production, has been found in these areas. The proposed system will use a self-powered conveyor belt to collect floating dirt and notify the authority to collect dirt. Self-powered systems based on hydroelectricity and solar can also help in the national grid. From this innovation, the drain will be free from floating dirt blockage, prevent urban storm waterlogging (USWL) and the hazardous manual labor cleaning process will be eliminated and the potential of sewage water will be utilized.
