Design and Simulation of SIE with Error Correction Mechanism in 45nm Technology
The rapid advancement of communication systems has necessitated robust error detection and correction mechanisms in data transmission protocols. This research presents a comprehensive design and simulation of a Serial Interface Engine (SIE) integrated with an efficient error correction mechanism. The SIE encompasses essential functionalities such as Serial-In Parallel-Out (SIPO), Parallel-In Serial-Out (PISO), CRC-16 calculation, bit stuffing and unstuffing, as well as (NRZI) Non-Return-to-Zero encoding and decoding. A significant enhancement to the traditional CRC-16 module includes the incorporation of a single-bit error correction logic preceding the CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Checksum) calculation stage. This novel approach ensures real-time error correction, thereby enhancing the reliability and accuracy of data transmission. The integration of single-bit error correction logic allows the system to correct errors on-the-fly, reducing the need for data retransmission and thereby improving overall system efficiency. Both the existing and proposed systems were synthesized using the Genus tool in 45nm technology, revealing that the integration of single-bit error correction did not impact the area and power consumption. The synthesis results demonstrated that the proposed design maintains the same level of hardware efficiency as the traditional design. These results underscore the efficiency of the proposed design in maintaining hardware efficiency while significantly improving error correction capabilities. The improved error correction mechanism is particularly beneficial for high-speed data transmission in modern communication systems, where data integrity is paramount. This study highlights the potential for incorporating advanced error correction techniques in existing systems without significant redesign, paving the way for more reliable and efficient communication protocols.
