Smart Aeroponics Using IoT
Urban farming has gained popularity due to increasing societal awareness about food quality. An innovative urban farming method is aeroponics, which uses air as the growing medium for farming. There are other techniques such as hydroponics and aquaponics. But Aeroponics is much more efficient as it offers substantial water savings while increasing crop yield. The primary factor of farming is maximum crop yield with minimum utilization of resources. An aeroponics system consist of a growth chamber which will have place for net pots and holes for placement of seeds. There is also an oasis cube for germination. The nutrients required for plant growth are sprayed onto the roots of the plant using submersible pump and is given appropriate timing. The aeroponics system can be more sensitive to temperature changes and other environmental factors. They also require precise control for giving nutrients. The project employs an aeroponics system using IoT. The temperature, pH, TDS and water level are monitored and automated so that there is minimal human interaction. In addition, we can remotely access and control aeroponics system from a smart phone or other device. This is useful for commercial growers who need to multiple system in different locations.
