Non-fired Interlocking compressed earth bricks (named Non-fired compressed earth bricks) use local materials to reduce the difficulties in transporting materials, saving energy and protecting environment, making them suitable for constructing walls in low-rise houses in mountainous areas. In the masonry made from non-fired compressed earth bricks does not require mortar as in traditional methods, but instead is interlocking. To enhance the bonding between the bricks and increase the masonry's load-bearing capacity, vertical ribs are formed by filling the cylindrical hollow holes in the bricks with cement mortar. This paper presents an experimental study on the effect of vertical ribs on the concentrated axial load-bearing capacity of masonry made from non-fired compressed earth bricks. Three masonry samples with the same dimensions of 300 x 600 mm were constructed. Among them, one unreinforced vertical masonry (M-0) serves as the control sample, one reinforced with vertical ribs made of cement mortar without steel bars (M-1), and one reinforced with vertical ribs made of cement mortar with steel bars (M-2) . The masonry are subjected to concentrated axial load until failure. The experimental results show that vertical ribs have a significant effect on increasing the masonry's load-bearing capacity. The increase in load-bearing capacity of the masonry reinforced with vertical ribs M-1 and M-2, compared to the control sample is 42.8% and 66.7%, respectively. The results also clearly demonstrate the contribution of the steel bars in the ribs to the load-bearing capacity of the masonry made from non-fired compressed earth bricks.
