The Development of a Metaverse-Based Instructional Model for Enhancing University Students' Field Practice Competencies
Objectives The purpose of this study is to develop an instructional model utilizing the metaverse to enhance university students' field practice competencies. Methods To achieve this research objective, a preliminary model was constructed through a literature review and needs analysis. Subsequently, the first revised version of the model was developed based on expert evaluations, and the final version was refined through field application. Results The developed model comprises the elements of value, purpose, goals, content, methods, and assessment. The final model was implemented to strengthen technical stability, enabling smooth real-time interaction and feedback within the metaverse. Additionally, it incorporated a wide range of practice scenarios reflecting diverse professional situations and provided customized repetitive learning tailored to students' levels and tendencies. Furthermore, the model was designed to establish an organic relationship among learning activities, learning environments, learning content, and learning evaluations, organized sequentially. Conclusions This model is expected to enhance students' job performance abilities, collaborative problem-solving skills, learning motivation, and understanding and application of job-related tasks. The study holds significance in offering insights for designing instructional models that incorporate the advantages of virtual environments, including the metaverse, in field practice and similar educational settings.
