Distribution of the Seebeck Coefficient in Bi2Te3 Obtained by Direct Melting Method

The specimen obtained in this process is characterized by a non-uniform distribution of p- and n-type regions, possibly due to the uneven temperature distribution during crystallization. The obtained map of the Seebeck coefficient distribution provides information to suggest the direction of the crystallization front. This observation could be crucial for a deeper understanding of the processes occurring during the formation of the Bi<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>Te<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf> ingot and its structure. Further research in this direction may help optimize the process of obtaining the material with desired thermoelectric properties.

Abstract

The distribution of the Seebeck coefficient over the surface of a Bi<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>Te<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf> ingot obtained by direct alloying of bismuth (Bi) and tellurium (Te) in a stoichiometric ratio was investigated.
