The Role of Electrical Engineering and Digital Technologies in Sustainable Mining: A Path to Ecological and Economic Prosperity
The mining industry has a long history of relying on strong electrical engineering solutions to support its operations. The industry has undergone significant transformations with the introduction of digital technologies, leading to improved efficiency, safety, and sustainability across mining processes. This paper explores how electrical engineering principles and cutting-edge digital tools are revolutionizing modern mining operations, focusing on digital innovations such as automation, IoT (Internet of Things) and data analytics and includes case studies and examples that demonstrate how these technologies are used to enhance operational workflows, optimize energy management, and mitigate risks. The integration of digital technologies into mining electrical systems presents promising opportunities for future advancements, addressing challenges and paving the way for smarter, more efficient mining operations. The paper investigates how automation, robotics, remote operation, and sophisticated data analytics are enhancing various mining processes, including exploration, extraction, processing, and transportation. As the mining industry is essential for economic development, it faces significant challenges in balancing ecological sustainability with profitability. This paper also explores the pivotal role of electrical engineering and digital technologies in addressing these challenges through innovative solutions. The mining industry is currently facing the challenge of balancing ecological sustainability and economic viability. This paper explores how digital technologies can modernize electrical engineering practices within mining enterprises to achieve this balance. Authors delve into how advancements in electrical systems, automation, and data-driven decision-making revolutionizing mining operations are, leading to reduced environmental impact and increased economic efficiency. The paper presents empirical data to illustrate the tangible benefits of this technological convergence, showcasing its potential to drive sustainable mining practices. The built multifactor regression model, which describes the dependence of the complex indicator of sustainability of ecological and economic development of PrJSC “Poltava GZK”, can be used to justify proposals for optimizing the financial and economic activity of the enterprise, including the innovative sphere. The authors demonstrated how this model can be used to explore the impact of advancements in electrical engineering and the application of digital technologies in creating sustainable ecological and economic development scenarios for a mining enterprise. Moreover, authors examine the challenges and opportunities arising from this technological shift, including the need for a highly skilled workforce and the imperative of robust cybersecurity measures. By providing a holistic overview of the current state of electrical engineering and digital technologies in the mining industry, this paper aims to illuminate the path towards a safer, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable future for the sector.
