Enhancing Bandwidth and Gain of Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna Arrays Using Substrate Integrated Waveguide Techniques

This paper presents the design and performance enhancement of a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) for 5G communication systems using Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) technology. The integration of SIW into the CDRA significantly improves antenna performance, including increased bandwidth and gain, reduced losses, and enhanced isolation between elements in array configurations. A detailed parametric study is conducted to assess the impact of SIW on mutual coupling in a 1x2 array, followed by the design of a 1x4 SIW-based CDRA array optimized for high-frequency applications. Simulation results demonstrate a substantial improvement in antenna bandwidth, gain, and efficiency, making the proposed design highly suitable for 5G communication systems operating around 28 GHz. The comparative analysis between different configurations confirms that SIW integration offers superior performance for cylindrical DRA arrays.
