Slotted Antenna Based Sensor for Liquid Sensing

With recent advancements in technology, antennas are evolving rapidly to meet current development needs. This project focuses on creating a device for liquid sensing, as many antenna-based sensors with sensitivity have not yet been classified or characterized. To address this gap, the project aims to characterize a slot antenna-based sensor by designing, simulating, and analyzing the impact of slot patterns on the sensitivity performance of a Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna (RMSPA) for liquid sensing applications. To achieve this objective, the project designs three slot configurations: square, parallel, and series. Simulations were conducted using CST Studio Suite, and the fabricated antenna was measured using a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The results showed that the square slot configuration under wet conditions with plain water achieved a shift in resonance frequency of 0.24 GHz, while the series slot configuration in wet conditions with saline solution reached 0.28 GHz, both indicating high sensitivity. In conclusion, this project has successfully demonstrated that sensitivity is a crucial characteristic for developing an antenna-based sensor capable of effectively detecting liquid levels in a more precise manner.
