Analysis of the Experimental Bias Voltage Generation for RIS Using Standing Wave Control

We present an advancement in the experimental generation of dc voltage for biasing varactors on a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) using a novel technique named "wave control". The method consists of using a single cable that delivers a time-domain periodic waveform which creates standing waves on a biasing transmission line beneath the RF surface. This can enable dynamic control of the dc voltage distribution across the RIS.

Abstract

We present an advancement in the experimental generation of dc voltage for biasing varactors on a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) using a novel technique named "wave control". The method consists of using a single cable that delivers a time-domain periodic waveform which creates standing waves on a biasing transmission line beneath the RF surface. This can enable dynamic control of the dc voltage distribution across the RIS.
