Design and Evaluation of a Patch UWB Antenna for Breast Cancer Detection System
This work evaluates the performance of an Ultra Wideband antenna designed for application on breast cancer detection systems. The development was based on a semicircular radiator patch antenna where several enhancements were implemented. The antenna was simulated and fabricated, and results showed accomplishment to the application goals. Images were reconstructed by the improved confocal algorithm employing simulated reflected signals in a system using the proposed antenna. Resulting images demonstrated feasibility of the antenna, detecting a 1.4 cm tumour in a 15.0 cm simulated breast. Preliminary results validated this antenna development toward upcoming experimental tests using real phantoms.
