Thermal Validation of a Novel Antenna Design for Superficial Microwave Hyperthermia
We present the design and thermal validation of an antenna to administer superficial hyperthermia to treat melanoma. This applicator antenna is based on the double folded dipole with modifications to better control the size and shape of thermal footprint in the skin and beneath. This design is lightweight and compact, is easy and affordable to manufacture, and may be integrated into complex systems. Experimental results on a human phantom show that our design generates a heating area and intensity appropriate for the hyperthermia treatment of melanoma.
