A Dual-Beam Frequency-Scanning Antenna Based on Surface-Wave Power Divider

This paper proposes the design of a dual-beam frequency-scanning antenna based on a surface wave power divider. The surface wave transmission line structure for the power divider is designed by developing a complementary groove plasmonic transmission line structure and a transition between the groove plasmonic transmission lines. Periodic radiation patches are added to the surface wave transmission line to achieve coupling and conversion from surface waves to radiated electromagnetic waves, thereby realizing the dual-beam frequency-scanning antenna. Simulation results show that the antenna has two radiation beams on the left and right, its radiation beam scanning angle can cover ±45 degrees with the frequency of 8.8 GHz-11.2 GHz. As the frequency increases, the two radiation beams deflect toward the center. At 11.2 GHz, the phase of the units in both directions aligns, leading to beam combination with a maximum gain of 14.5 dBi. Furthermore, at 11.4 GHz, the two beams begin to deflect in opposite directions, and a wide beam is achieved at this frequency. The antenna has the advantages of simple structure and low profile.
